Giveaway! “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess” by Jen Hatmaker

“7 is the true story of how Jen took seven months, identified seven areas of excess, and made seven simple choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence. In the spirit of a fast, she pursued a deeply reduced life in order to find a greatly increased God.”

You can find out more about the author, Jen Hatmaker, and watch the Book Trailer for “7″ at www.jenhatmaker.com .

I found out about this book at the Bloom (in)courage website.  Bloom (in)courage is the DaySpring online book club/blog. I have enjoyed following the (in)courage blog for some time. Just recently I learned they have an on-line book club at Bloom.

I most often prefer book clubs where I can meet my friends, share a bottle of wine, and catch up on each other’s lives discuss the book.

But, “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess” by Jen Hatmaker caught my eye. And, I thought, “Hmmm….an online book club. This could be interesting”.

Having just moved, trying to get my family of four unpacked, organized, connected – not to mention fed, clothed, and nurtured, I have been feeling very overwhelmed with all of the excess in our life.

Stuff. Stuff. Stuff.

Activities.

A garage full of sporting equipment.

Legos {need I say more}.

You get the picture.

I have not participated in a Bloom (in)courage book discussion group before. But, I wanted to try this one because the topic feels so relevant to me - right now.

Also, I can see how the “modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence” are negatively influencing me, my husband, and my two young, impressionable boys. Taking our eyes off of Christ. Tempting us with focus on self.

I cannot ignore the excesses anymore. I want to fight back, too!

The whole set-up over at Bloom (in)courage appears to be very well organized. And, “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess” has 100+ 5-star ratings on Amazon.

Would any of you care to join me as I read “7″ and participate in the on-line book club at Bloom (in)courage?

I have two copies to give away!

Even if you choose not to participate in the Bloom (in)courage book club discussion, I would still enjoy reading your thoughts and comments at jana’s three dresses’ facebook page as you read through the book. I hope that we can encourage one another.

Please leave a comment below indicating your interest. I will randomly select two winners by Monday, August 20th. The Bloom Book Club begins August 27th.

(Disclosure: I am not receiving financial compensation for the promotion of this book. I simply want to read it and share its message with others. I think it is that important a topic.)

newly purposed,

jana

Sign me up for the drawing please. I’m drowning in stuff over here, but still shopping for the “right” things for our house (clothes for work, school supplies, etc). I would love to engage in conversations about ways to reduce the “clutter” and refocus on what really matters. Thanks, Jana!

  • Elizabeth @ DogFurandDandelions Says:

Not sure I’d be able to keep up with the Bloom study of it, since we’re about to enter super-busy season. But it looks very thought-provoking and profitable, so yeah, I’d enjoy sharing thoughts on it with someone else.

      Hi Della Sue,

I have had a lot of interest. Hmmm…seems I am not the only one concerned about the excess in my life and how it separates me from God. I would be happy to enter you in the drawing if you would like. Just please let me know before Monday. Thank you for your comment and continued support. ~ jana

  • Michelle Byrom Says:

I’m interested! I’m frequently looking for ways to let go of our excess. My favorite book on the topic is Happy Are You Poor by Thomas Dubay. He explains the meaning of Gospel poverty and then helps the reader connect that to everyday living. I’m looking forward to reading 7 to get another perspective (& spark my faith to get back on track!).

    • jana's three dresses Says:

Thank you, Michelle, for your comment! I haven’t heard of that book, but will be checking it out. I received my copy of the book today. It looks great, and challenging. Happy to know you will joining me. ~ jana

I will announce the winner on Monday, August 20th. Invite your friends to enter as well. We can fight this! ~ jana

PICK ME, PICK ME, OLD FRIEND AND FORMER BOOK CLUB COHORT.
I dropped off an old pan, some kids clothes, and a bag of my hubby’s old shirts and shorts today at our thrift shop. My daughter started school a few days ago and the moment she was out of the house I went through her book shelf and gave away a stack of younger books and puzzles! I’d like to “Bloom” with you. Miss you.
